WIPO Director General continues support for Vietnam

Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Francis Gurry vowed to keep support Vietnam in the field of intellectual property at a meeting with Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc  Thien in Hanoi on March 22.

At his reception, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thien informed that Vietnam has made efforts to fine-tune legal system on intellectual property, copyright and related rights and to implement efficiently despite many challenges. He suggested WIPO continue providing support for Vietnam in the field, especially through personnel training.
WIPO Director General Francis Gurry said that balancing authors and performers’ rights and right for public to access to works faces many challenges. Mr. Francis Gurry added that improved living standards in Asia, including Vietnam, would push cultural industries forward, hence the importance of the firm enforcement of intellectual property rights, copyright and related rights, as it will positively impacts the cultural industry and economic opportunities brought about by the sector./.
